Suzuki Auto South Africa has kicked off 2025 with record-breaking success, setting four new sales records in January—including its highest-ever overall sales and dealer sales. Leading the charge is the all-new Suzuki Swift, now South Africa’s best-selling car, with an incredible 2,628 units sold in a single month. This achievement cements Suzuki’s position as one of the country’s top-selling manufacturers, proving once again why its cars are loved for their style, efficiency, and value.Suzuki Auto South Africa and its network of dealers started 2025 off in style with the setting of four new sales records.
This robust figure consisted of 4,534 dealer sales (smashing the April 2024 record by 42 units) and 1,865 fleet/rental/government sales (beating the November 2024 record by three units). This result places Suzuki Auto South Africa second overall in the total vehicle sales by manufacturer rankings.
Of the 16 Suzuki vehicles currently on offer to South African consumers, it was the new fourth-generation Swift that led the January sales race with 2,628 units sold – the highest number sold in a single month since June 2022 (1,925 units). This achievement further cemented the Swift as the month’s overall best-selling model.
“Suzuki Auto South Africa is truly humbled by these achievements,” says Henno Havenga, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.
“We are grateful for the response from the market and pleased to see how the new fourth-generation Swift has been so well received so soon after its local launch.”
Introduced in November 2024, the new Swift is stirring up the AB-segment with its exuberant exterior styling, efficient Z12E 1.2l three-cylinder petrol engine and engaging driving dynamics courtesy its lightweight but rigid ‘HEARTECT’ platform. It also comes standard with best-in-class safety features such as six airbags (front, side and curtain), ABS brakes with EBD, Brake Assist Function, Electronic Stability Programme and rear ISOFIX anchors. In addition, all occupants have access to three point seatbelts (two front, three rear) with audible/visual reminders.
A recipient of the 2025 Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference of Japan (RJC) Car of The Year award, the Swift is a finalist in the 2025 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition and category finalist in the 2025 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards, the winner of which will be announced later this month. The popular hatchback is also a Top 10 finalist in the coveted 2025 World Car of the Year, and Top 5 finalist in the 2025 World Urban Car presented by the World Car Awards.
A category winner and runner up overall at the 2024 SA COTY Awards, the sleek Fronx crossover SUV was the second biggest seller for Suzuki Auto South Africa in January with 771 units sold, followed by the seven-seater Ertiga with 637 units sold.
“Suzuki Auto South Africa would like to congratulate its dealer network for a job well done as these record-setting figures would not have been achieved without them. We would also like to thank our customer base – old and new – for putting so much faith in our products. Their enthusiasm drives us to continue offering an affordable, value-for-money motoring experience built on Japanese quality,” says Havenga.
