Suzuki Auto South Africa is giving the Proteas Women ODI team a send-off to remember as they head to the 13th edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, taking place on the pitches of India and Sri Lanka between 30 September and 2 November 2025.
The farewell is unfolding at the Protea Hotel Wanderers on Wednesday 10 September, from 12h30 to 15h30, promising an exciting celebration of diverse South African sporting talent, teamwork and national pride. Fans are encouraged to join in the festivities, show their support and cheer the Proteas Women team on their journey to this nail-biting tournament.
Laura Wolvaardt will lead the recently announced 15-player squad, which features senior figures such as Chloé Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka and Suné Luus. The batting line-up gains further depth with the inclusion of power-hitter Tazmin Brits, while Nadine de Klerk, Anneke Bosch, Annerie Dercksen and Nondumiso Shangase provide additional all-round strength.
Behind the stumps, Sinalo Jafta will share duties with 17-year-old Karabo Meso, her domestic teammate who is set for her maiden senior World Cup appearance after representing South Africa at the U19 Women’s T20 editions in 2023 and 2025.
Nonkululeko Mlaba heads up the spin attack, with Masabata Klaas and Tumi Sekhukhune adding variety to the pace options. Meanwhile, young all-rounder Miané Smit has again been named as the travelling reserve, repeating the role she filled at last year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Suzuki Auto South Africa became a committed partner of Cricket South Africa (CSA) in April 2025 and the organisation’s first headline sponsor since 2020. As part of this multi-year partnership, the Japanese carmaker has contributed no less than 30 vehicles to CSA’s Development Hubs, helping to grow the game at grassroots level, and 12 vehicles directly to CSA to further enhance support for the organisation and its initiatives.
Furthermore, this collaboration underscores Suzuki's dedication to the development of cricket in South Africa and its role in supporting both the national Proteas Men and Women ODI teams.
“We are thrilled to send the Proteas Women off in style and to celebrate the incredible talent and determination of this team,” says Henno Havenga, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.
“Suzuki is proud to support cricket in South Africa at all levels and to stand with our national team as they chase down the dream of World Cup glory. We wish Laura Wolvaardt and the rest of her squad the best of luck as they begin their campaign on 3 October. We – and the rest of the nation – will be backing them all the way.”
This is the first major cricket event Suzuki Auto South Africa is facing at the crease and it promises to be one for the record books with the ever-determined Proteas destined to face-off against seven of the world’s best female cricketing nations, including reigning 2022 champions Australia.
“The Proteas Women embody the unbreakable spirit of South Africa,” says Pholetsi Moseki, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket South Africa.”
“They continue to inspire not only through their performances on the field but also through the unity, resilience and pride with which they represent our country.”
“As they embark on this World Cup journey, they carry with them the hopes of millions of South Africans. We wish Laura and the team the very best. Go and make history, knowing your nation stands firmly behind you.”
“We are also deeply grateful to Suzuki Auto South Africa for their unwavering support of the Proteas Women, ensuring that this team continues to grow and thrive on the global stage.”
