Suzuki JimnyA visit to experience the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti National Park has always been at the top of my bucket list. I never imagined I would drive all the way from the southern-most tip of Africa to Serengeti! 14,000 km in 40 days. But if you own a Suzuki Jimny, ANYthing is possible!

Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 37 seconds.
The Eco4x4Africa tour company made this possible for me to travel with in convoy of ten vehicles with a group of friends.  Most of the vehicles were Toyota Hilux or Landcruisers, and most of the males looked down their noses as the lady driver with her Suzuki joining the convoy. But at the end of the trip they all admitted the Suzuki Jimny performed exceptionally well and applauded our effort.

I travelled with a friend from Knysna which helped as co-driver and in sharing the petrol costs. The Jimny did not have any break-downs and all my emergency kit which went along as safety precaution, came home with me. To kit out the vehicle the Suzuki dealership (Paarl & Stellenbosch) kindly sponsored a floorboard installation in the boot where both back seats were removed, as well as a full tank of petrol. The owner-dealer Hennie was exceptionally kind and the workshop staff delivered excellent service beforehand as well as afterwards. My vehicle was also branded by Suzuki and the Eco4x4Africa stickers are still on my doors, which generates a lot of interest everywhere I go!

Africa by road is not for sissies! The route took us through 10 border crossings: South Africa to Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zanzibar and back again through Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and home via Beit bridge. The tour leader’s experience at border crossings was definitely a huge advantage.
