Suzuki Auto South Africa and the NSRI are strengthening their partnership with practical support that helps teams improve rescue readiness, reach communities and save lives.

Strong partnerships are built over time. They begin with shared purpose, grow through trust and, at their best, become part of the everyday work of making a difference.

That is how the relationship between the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and Suzuki Auto South Africa continues to evolve.

Across South Africa, the NSRI works to save lives in and around water. From water safety education classes and survival swimming lessons to advocacy for safer behaviour and standards in and around water environments, innovation in rescue capability, lifeguarding and rapid emergency response, the NSRI’s work depends on practical tools, capable teams and committed partners.

Suzuki Auto South Africa has become one of those partners.

Many South Africans know the partnership through the popular NSRI Cars4Good campaign , which invites the public to support the NSRI’s life-saving work while standing a chance to win a Suzuki Jimny. But the partnership has now grown into something broader: practical operational support that is helping strengthen NSRI teams in communities, on the ground and on the water.

Suzuki’s support is being felt across key areas of NSRI operations — from lifeguarding and drowning prevention to rescue readiness.

Supporting the people behind the work

At Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, a Suzuki Jimny and Suzuki quad bike are supporting the NSRI lifeguarding team on the ground.

Both are already in active use, helping lifeguards move quickly, remain visible, transport equipment and stay ready to respond across multiple aquatic areas, including pools, a dam and the beach.

The partnership will also strengthen the NSRI’s wider operational reach through seven Suzuki fleet loan vehicles, which are on their way to support Community Programmes teams delivering water safety education classes and survival swimming lessons across South Africa.

In addition, Suzuki is supporting NSRI’s Table Bay rescue station, through two outboard motors for the station’s fast-response rescue vessel. The motors are now in service and helping strengthen rescue readiness at one of the NSRI’s key rescue bases.

Taken together, this support means NSRI teams can reach more communities, cover more ground during patrols and strengthen rescue capability on the water — the kind of everyday operational capacity that rarely makes headlines but is often critical when seconds matter.

“Through Cars4Good, Suzuki has helped create national awareness and support for the NSRI’s life-saving work,” says Dirk Coetzee, NSRI Business Development Manager. “What we’re seeing now is that support is becoming part of our daily operations — our lifeguards are more mobile, our water safety education and survival swimming teams will be able to reach further, and our rescue base in Table Bay is better equipped to respond.”

A partnership growing with purpose

For many South Africans, Cars4Good remains the most visible expression of the Suzuki and NSRI partnership. But this growing support shows what happens when a brand partner moves closer to the work itself.

Suzuki is not only helping the NSRI tell its story. Suzuki is helping the NSRI deliver the work.

For NSRI Head of Operations Charl Maritz, support of this nature reflects the value of practical, trusted partnerships.

“Support like this helps strengthen real operational capability,” says Charl. “It gives our teams practical resources that help them work more effectively, reach further and respond where they are needed most.”

Suzuki’s contribution also forms part of the NSRI’s broader partner ecosystem, where different supporters help strengthen different areas of the organisation’s life-saving work.

Every partner plays a role in helping the NSRI save lives, and Suzuki’s growing support adds practical capability where it is needed most.

For Suzuki, expanding the partnership was a natural next step.

“The Cars4Good competition is a great campaign and can stand on its own, but there are so many other opportunities for collaboration that we are happy to explore,” says Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa. “Those conversations have already led to impactful and proactive initiatives.”

He says the relationship works because both organisations are driven by similar values.

“Suzuki’s slogan is ‘By Your Side’,” says Brendon. “We are looking for opportunities that embody support, reliability and long-standing partnership. As a brand, Suzuki is a natural fit to support the NSRI’s initiatives with our reliable products and dealer network.”

For the NSRI, this is what meaningful partnership looks like: practical support that helps teams reach further, respond faster and save lives.
