Customer demand has solidly reinforced the positive reviews given to the Jimny by motoring media since its launch. However, there are some features that often do not get mentioned in those reviews, and we have compiled a list of 10 of these.
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes, 48 seconds.
1. Auto lights (GLX)
Having the lights switch on automatically in changing driving conditions and at night is not merely a luxury feature – it’s also a safety feature ensuring you are as visible as possible to other road users, while providing the best illumination for you.
The GLX specification Jimny is fitted as standard with auto LED projector headlamps.
2. Assist grips on doors and cubby hole
The Jimny is designed and engineered to be enjoyed both on-road and off-road, which is why the design has incorporated assist grips on the inside of the doors and on the dashboard. The dashboard is designed in three horizontal layers. The strong horizontal lines act as visual reference of the horizontal plane when driving off-road and it incorporates an assist-grip – all there to make the ride more comfortable for passengers.
3. Mounting points in the rear cabin
In the luggage area, the focus on practical space finds application in special utility hooks and screw holes for additional hooks, which are readily available at the nearest Suzuki dealer.
4. 12v socket in the rear
In keeping with its off-road and leisure profile, Suzuki has added an extra 12V socket to power items such as a camping fridge in the rear of the vehicle. This can also be used to power a laptop computer, cell phone or keep the video games fully active for the kids when on a long trip.
5. Rear interior light (GLX)
The rear interior light fitted to GLX models is designed and positioned in such a way that it makes life a little easier for the passengers but does not directly intrude on the driver and it is useful at night, especially when you’re camping.
6. Brake LSD and ESP
This is a Suzuki-designed system and should not be confused with the Electronic Stability Programme found on other makes of vehicles.
The mechanical four-wheel drive system is enhanced by Suzuki’s proprietary Brake Limited Slip Differential and electronic stability control systems. The Brake LSD-system adjusts torque to the wheel with grip if another wheel on the same axle starts spinning. The system has an extra-power mode, which kicks in below 30km/h in low-range mode for the best possible traction.
Brake LSD is supported by Hill Hold Control and Hill Descent Control, which are standard on all models. Hill Descent Control will maintain a descent speed of 10km/h in 4WD high range and 5 km/h in 4WD low range, which allows the driver to focus on navigating obstacles, without having to operate the brake pedal.
All these integrated 4x4 assist systems are combined as Suzuki’s proprietary ALLGRIP PRO off-road system and are standard on all models of the new Jimny.
7. Steering controls (Available on GLX only)
With the all-new Suzuki Jimny, the interior designers created a cabin with the practical luxury of a well-designed professional tool. Every detail surrounding the driver and front passenger has been designed to be easily accessible, even with gloves on, and is robust and functional.
The GLX models are also fitted with Suzuki’s Smartphone Linkage Display Audio (SLDA). This double-DIN audio system has a 7-inch infrared touch screen with Android Auto, Apple Carplay and MirrorLink integration. The system has a USB connector, SD-card slot and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and the most important features can be controlled by buttons on the leather-covered steering wheel.
8. Rear seat belts can be unclipped and kept away when the rear seats are down.
In keeping with the multi-functionality of the seating in the Jimny, the rear seat belts can be unclipped and kept out of the way when the rear seats are folded down. Besides being practical, this also helps to keep them from becoming entangled or getting dirty.
9. ISOFIX
With rear passengers having 40mm more legroom than before, the Jimny is fitted as standard with ISOFIX child seat anchors and the extra room makes it a breeze to fit or remove the child seat.
10. Convert to a bed with the seats flat
The cleverly designed Jimny seats can be folded in such a way that there is a completely flat area from front to back – more than enough for someone to use as a bed on a camping trip.
On the passenger side, this flat-folding seat and foldable rear bench allows for a completely flat loading surface for long equipment, such as surfboards.
