  • 5,284 new Suzuki passenger vehicles found homes in March
  • Suzuki again ranked as South Africa’s second-best-selling car brand
  • 62,750 vehicles sold in latest financial year
  • Year-on-year sales growth up 20.75% in difficult market conditions

Suzuki Auto South Africa has concluded another stellar sales month and a record breaking financial year – the 16th since the company began local operations in 2008.

As detailed in the official sales report – published by industry body naamsa on the first business day of every month – 5,284 new Suzuki passenger vehicles were sold during March 2025. This figure consisted of 4,733 dealer sales and 551 fleet/rental/government sales. This cements Suzuki as South Africa’s second-best-selling car brand for a third consecutive month.

Leading the sales charge for the Japanese marque was the new fourth-generation Swift with 1,608 units sold, bringing it home as the month’s fifth overall best-selling model. Hot on the heels of the all-new Swift was the stylish Fronx crossover SUV with 1,052 units sold, followed by the robust and practical Ertiga seven-seater with 749 units sold.

March’s strong performance ends Suzuki Auto’s 2024/2025 financial year on a high with total sales reaching 62,750 vehicles. This number eclipses the company’s 2023/2024 financial year sales of 51,969 vehicles by 10,781 units and in doing so sets a new all-time record for the Shizuoka-based carmaker on South African soil. These figures include vehicles sold into Zimbabwe and Mozambique, which are not reflected in naamsa official reports.

“Suzuki Auto has experienced a truly humbling start to 2025,” says Henno Havenga, GM Auto Sale and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

“Thanks to our incredible customer base and hard working dealer network, and not forgetting the quality Japanese product, January saw us set four new overall sales records. Not only did we experience our best-ever dealer and fleet/rental/government sales, we also sold the highest number of Swifts. The Swift was also the overall best-selling model for the month.”

“With our latest financial year officially wrapped up, we are now also able to confirm Suzuki Auto South Africa has experienced year-on-year sales growth of 20.75%. Considering the continued pressure on disposable household income with rising living costs testing even the best-planned budgets, this is an excellent result that again demonstrates South African motorists have an appetite for quality, competitively priced vehicles that are affordable to run and enjoyable to drive.”

“Although there are signs that pressure on consumers will persist, it remains an exciting time for the Suzuki brand, and we are confident that we can leverage our recent sales momentum to our benefit across all fronts. In closing, a very big thank you and well done to the entire Suzuki Auto South team for another exceptional financial year. Arigatō gozaimashita!”
